Candle Care 101

Here's everything you need to know about caring for your hand poured candle(s) from Altruistic Love Candle Company. The information below will be brand new for some and will serve as a reminder for others. In order to ensure optimal performance of your new candle(s) and your safety, there are a few tips you need to acknowledge and implement.

 â€‹â€‹

  • Keep your wicks trimmed 1/4-1/8 of an inch. Wicks should be trimmed after every burn or every 4 hours to prevent sooting and rampant flames. You can use a wick trimmer, scissors, nail clipper, or even your fingers.

  • Burn your candle for at least 2 hours every time you light it. This is SUPER important for your first burn! Wax has memory, so if you do not allow it to reach a decent melt pool it will begin to tunnel. Due to the nature of our wax, it is normal to not get a full edge to edge burn on the first try. As the candle gets lower in the jar, the wax caught up in the corners will eventually melt and even out.

  • Caution against extended burn times. Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating the glass vessel. This measure will also extended the lifespan of you candle.

  • Do NOT let your candle extinguish itself. Stop use when 1/4/-1/2 of an inch or wax remains or glass may crack.

  • Be aware of your candle and environment. Keep away from air vents, drafts, flammable objects, small children, and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
